Prior to taking the numeracy exam the first time around I studied from a QTS revision guide and took advice from experienced teachers who had taken it a number of years ago. Many said, ' You don't really need to study for it, you'll be fine'. Sadly they were 'out of date' with their knowledge of the exam. The type and level of questions has changed over the recent years. Despite my studying from the revision guide, it was not enough. The material you provided was excellent. It was very relevant, targeted specific areas and provided superb video tutorials. Furthermore, the two coaching sessions with you were invaluable. You have an excellent manner and style of tutoring, which generates confidence in the student. The outcome was that I was able to work quicker and smarter using your techniques and short cuts. Keep up the great work David. Kind Regards, Jade-Lauren, June 2013 I would like to take this opportunity to thank David for his advice, guidance and support over the past 2 weeks. Although I am not completely hopeless at maths, I do not think mathematically at all...in fact I detest the subject. David's QTS material was extremely valuable in summing up all the topics that I could expect in the numeracy test. The resources clearly outlined methodologies, gave quick and simple tricks, and many examples to work through, so the information could register in my head. I am so appreciative for the packs, they are fantastic value for money...since they gave me confidence, and helped me feel more prepared. I am not going to lie and say I found the test easy. It was an experience that I hope I never have to go through again. Don't take me wrong, the actual maths was perhaps not as difficult as the practice tests online...but because I was so nervous, and that there is now a restriction on the number of resits, I got myself into such a state the closer I got to the test. I am sure there have been many in my position before. This is where David's stuff was instrumental in helping me practice, practice and practice. And that is truly what made the difference. During the test I was getting simple questions wrong, I was running out of time...but since I had practiced these questions so much, and had a tool kit of shortcuts, I kind of was able to approach some questions instinctively. I know most people focus on the second part of the test, but even that is timed, and some questions just don't make sense at all. And I ran out of time. My saving grace must have been answering more of the mental arithmetic questions correctly...and this is where I don't think any other resource could match up to David's mental arithmetic pack. I seriously recommend it to anyone who wants some extra help. It certainly worked for me...and I passed first time. I walked out of the room nearly in tears, telling the receptionist immediately how awful I had done, and how I choked, and just cannot believe how I badly I did...until they handed my passport back with a print out statement inside stating that I had passed! Of course I really did feel my eyes fill up then with an extreme mix of emotions. I have yet to do the literacy, so all things being well, I should begin my course in September. And years from now when I am hopefully sitting in a classroom teaching Shakespeare, I will look back and think, that I have David to thank a lot for this. So thank you again, and I have already recommended your materials to all my friends! Sorry this is a bit long, I'm just so overwhelmed with shock and relief and gratitude, and well I'm sure you've heard it many times before. Best Wishes,

Hi there, I downloaded your mental maths yesterday. I had been practicing for ages and I think you showing best ways of doing the mental maths just put my mind at ease...I took the test this morning and passed first time!
Thank you.. Yes, recent feedback indicates that the material matches the current content. I've just done my first numeracy test and failed by 2 marks. The on screen was nothing like I have revised before. .... You'll have to put in more work on that section I'm afraid I am using your resources along with the Chris Tyreman book and there's one question about weights : photocopying paper weighs 80g/m2. The dimensions of a single sheet are 21 X 30cm. What is the weight of a 5 ream box of paper in kg (1ream=500 sheets). is these kinds of questions likely to be in my retake? ....It's impossible to tell if it will come up. It's about problem solving with area and how it connects to weight. Work out the area of one sheet and then multiply up by 2500 to give the total area. Be careful to change everything to metres first. 0.21m×0.30m → 0.063 m2→0.063 × 2500 → 157.5 m2 → 157.5 x 80g → 12600g→12.6 kg Thanks, your method is much more understandable compared to his method. Took my third and final attempt at the numeracy skills test today and passed! I used your materials this week to revise.
Many thanks David, for your QTS tests package. It worked wonders for my son. I am sure it built up his confidence and he passed with flying colours. I am sure it has helped scores of other candidates - pity you can't get it to come up on the internet as soon as QTS numeracy is searched for - guess you would get even more business as soon as panicking students looked at your sampler.

I used your materials as well as the TA materials for revision. Unfortunately I failed my 2nd attempt this morning. I know I revised and tried my best but I'm so disheartened. How many did you miss by? ----------- It was 3 marks the first time and 4 marks today. --------------------------- Sometimes it can get worse between two tests - this could be purely panic. Chris, London, April 2013 Lois felt that she needed some expert help describing maths as not my strong point at all! She had a two hour lesson and I noticed she prefaced each question with 'arghhh'. I told her to stop and mentally replace it with 'yippee'. This stops the unconscious believing that something difficult and nasty is about to happen. She tried it and a week later: I PASSED! I can barely believe it but I've done it! From maths-phobia to first time pass. Thank you so much for your help; following your lesson I changed my attitude to the questions (from 'arghhh' to 'yippee') and I think this played a big part as I didn't panic when I missed the first mental arithmetic question. The questions were as expected and certainly no more challenging than the ones online. I had been revising for just under a week prior to finding your website and resources, and can confidently say that I understood more in 2 days of watching your videos and PowerPoints, and reading your booklet, than I did from any of the QTS books I had previously read. I really needed to be talked through the maths in a clear and logical way, which I found your videos did just perfectly. I only wish I had found them sooner. I found the mental maths tips particularly beneficial. I often knew how to work out the maths required for the mental maths questions- but often could not work out the answers in the required time. Your time-saving tips were so useful, as were your videos demonstrating how you could use the tips to answer the questions comfortably, and in the required time limit. If you can spend time everyday doing some revision then yes. Make sure you can do the online tests and pass or be very close before you take a test. Charlotte: Cool thanks. I'm not too bad worked through mental maths pack so much more confident. Starting statistics pack today so will let you know how I get on. Just needed to know it was achievable !! Charlotte: Consistently getting 6/7 on mental and lowest 14 on the statistics, so hopefully day will go well. Pass or fail your materials have really been invaluable and somewhat shorten the time needed to spend on these areas as they are so specific. I could have spent hours and hours looking for these tips and tricks and may never have gotten there. Feel like in ten days I have acquired the skills needed to pass just need to keep calm and keep the nerves in check. It has been a real privilege working with David, especially using the materials he has designed specifically for the QTS. I have had lessons with another tutor, read all the books, done the test and failed and was beginning to think I was doomed to break the record of 37 times to pass! But after just 2 lessons with him and practising his materials at home my confidence began to grow. I went in for a test and was 5 marks off (I think the nerves got to me) then I had one more lesson and took the test again. I went in with no expectations and applied the strategies David recommended and I passed! I'm someone who has always struggled with Maths and had to have a tutor to get me through my G.C.S.E, even then it took 3 times to get my C! I must say what a huge relief it is to have passed and now I can be free of that burden for the rest of the year! I am on a two term GTP course and although my teaching is going really well, my numeracy test practice is failing. I am really struggling and have today scored 4/28 on my practice. I seem to have two main problems: 1. Processing what is being asked - especially fractions and percentages 2. Understanding the correct mathematical calculation to do I would be happy to travel from Essex. I replied ... "Your concerns will start to disappear as you do more example qts questions. Aim to concentrate on the on-screen part of the test to gain the majority of your marks. In theory if you got 100% in that section (16/16) you'll only need 1 mark from mental maths (1/12.)" Andrea bought the on-line material before doing some 1 to 1 coaching just before Christmas. A few weeks later she emailed... Thank you so much for your help before Christmas. I passed all three skills tests. On the 22nd I took all three and passed literacy and ICT first time. I failed numeracy but only by one mark. The earliest I could rebook was the 28th and involved a trip into London. I found the test much harder but was delighted to have passed! Thank you so much again. There is nothing worse or as frustrating when you have to keep taking the test and to receive the paper telling you , that you have yet again failed- Maths made easy will help you to overcome this! I failed the maths by 11 marks on Saturday! I knew it was a no no. Definitely need to book a tutorial over Half term as I am running out of time and need to pass:( (23rd May 2011) I failed by 5 marks. (June 3rd 2011) grr... I missed it again by 2 marks. I have never been confident with my maths skills and after attempting the practice tests on the TDA website, I thought I was a hopeless case. As an experienced teacher (without QTS) I joined a teacher training course at the very end of the academic year, with just a term and my summer holidays to get through the work and tests. I took my maths test today - just a week from the final deadline, and am so pleased I discovered your video download last night to prepare me for it! I felt so much more confident doing the mental maths section once I had seen it as a game of 'spot the shortcut', and your tips were invaluable. I'm pleased to say I passed too! I was successful in passing the numeracy qts skills test, I went through a torrid time but I focused on it and passed the test on 24th August '09. Since having tuition sessions with David I have learnt to be much quicker at mental mathematics and have learnt new strategies for solving a range of mathematical problems quickly; rather than using the old fashion route taught at school many years ago!
