What is the Numeracy Skills Pass Mark

October 15, 2017

The QTS Skills Tests are composed of the professional literacy and numeracy skills tests which have to be taken and passed in order to gain entry on to initial teacher training courses. Many prospective teachers ask what is the qts maths test pass mark? Well the test is out of 28, with 12 mental arithmetic questions followed by 16 written data questions. Candidates have to score a minimum total mark irrespective of the separate marks in the two distinct sections.

Now it is important to point out that the numeracy skills test pass mark does vary. Some websites and providers suggest that the pass mark for the professional numeracy skills test set by Learndirect is 63% or 18 out of 28; however this isn't entirely true. Because the questions within the numeracy skills test change and are selected form a rotating bank of questions the test difficulty can vary and therefore the pass mark is adjusted accordingly. Therefore if you sit a relatively difficult test the pass mark for the numeracy skills test will drop and could be as low as 16; however if you by chance get a selection of questions which are considered easier then you will have to achieve a higher mark possibly as high as 20. In summary the pass mark for the numeracy skills test varies between 16 to 20 depending on the difficulty of the test. For the numeracy skills tests we recommend through QTS Maths Tutor, you can assume the pass mark for these is 18 as the tests are set to a good level of difficulty and will prepare you effectively for your real exam.
